FAQ

What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a complete medical system encompassing acupuncture, herbal medicine, diet therapy, exercises such as Tai Chi and medical Qi Gong, and meditative practices. Using TCM diagnostic methods, practitioners provide individualized treatment to engage and cultivate the body’s innate healing abilities.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body to regulate the flow of vital life energy or “Qi”. These points access the body’s network of channels or “meridians” both on the surface and within the body. This network serves to provide vital life energy to every tissue, organ and cell and effects the individual on the mental, emotional and spiritual levels as well.

What is Chinese Herbal Medicine?

Chinese Herbal medicine is based on a system of diagnosis that examines your "nature." It utilizes plant, mineral and animal materials, all considered “herbs” in the Chinese materia medica, and are prepared in specific combinations called “formulas”.

For internal consumption these formulas may be prepared in decoctions using raw herbs, as teas using powdered herbs, in pill form, or as poultices and salves for external application. Herbal formulas are modified as needed to address the changing condition of the patient.

Although there are some animal products in the materia medica, modifications can be made to accommodate the vegan diet and lifestyle.

Testimonials

  • After living with excruciating and sometimes debilitating pain for nearly two years (but what seems like a lifetime) and after trying different types of medications, that did absolutely nothing to relieve my pain, it was suggested by my physician that I should try acupuncture. After receiving acupuncture for approximately four weeks, I was practically pain free. - D.R.

  • This is the best  thing the VA has sent me to. I have had more out of this than the 14 years of other therapies, shots, meds, etc. -J.T.

  • With the treatment I have received with Beth, I feel “fabulous.” I am able to do things I couldn’t before such as get onto my feet from a low position, I can walk longer and I have more stamina. I am now able to start working out again! - A.C.

  • I have suffered with incredible chronic excruciating back pain for the last couple of years. As I get older, the pain seems to get worst. My chronic pain made my quality of life difficult or almost impossible at times which lead to some periods of isolation. Through the results of painstaking trial and error, I was constantly searching for a successful pain management. I have tried numerous treatments to include pain medications, physical therapy, TENS, low back pain home care, massages, radio frequency treatment, chiropractic care, yoga, ice and heat, anti-inflammatory medications and even counseling and they all provided short-term relief.  During my suffering, my doctor had exhausted all resources and was eager to find a drug-free approach to my pain management and decided to refer me to a licensed Acupuncturist.  I was very reluctant at first especially since I didn’t care for needles but the chronic back pain made me take a chance.  After the initial treatment, I experienced dramatic relief. I am presently on a maintenance schedule and the treatments have been very effective at reducing my pain, decreasing some stress, help with sleeping, and improved my energy level. Acupuncture can be what you need to support the highest possible quality of life. I would highly recommend acupuncture to anyone that is pursuing a hopeful and promising approach to managing and eliminating chronic pain. - B.C.
